Thank you for the article, as a non-Ukranian attending a Ukranian Byzantine Catholic Church I am looking forward to seeing the Ukranian Catholic Catechism in the English language later this year.

I hope that the Catechism strongly refelcts the Eastern/Byzantine Tradition in its writing and content and has No Latin influence (which I believe is what the Pope and Bishops would want). I hope that its emphasis and perspective is Eastern.

Dear Peter,
I read your explanation with great interest, however I am now even more confused.
Should it not have read "that until 1582 Christmas was celebrated on the 7th of Jan"??? as in the Julian calendar, before it was changed to the 25th of Dec. as in the Gregorian calendar which the world uses now?
I thought that the orthodox world and eastern rite Ukrainian Catholics had maintained tradition in the church and continue to use the Julian calendar hence Christmas is on the 7th Jan according to the old Julian calendar?
This has been my understanding up until now. Have I been wrong all these years?

One should never say “never” to anything I suppose but the chances of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy in Australia to expand into Asia are not very good at the present time. To expand an eparchy, the church needs churches, clergy and people. All of these are in very low numbers in Asia. There has to be a formal procedure put in place so that would justify such a move. One would have to come up with a formal structure which is in place. At present, there are no steps in place for the Eparchy to expand.

Is there a possibility that your eparchy will expand to far-flung parts Asia particularly in the Philippines?

I have been thinking a lot about the above article. As stated in last paragraph, I am one of those who strongly agree with the above comments; however, I am puzzled by the last sentence.
I believe that people must "fight" with a passion for their country, their religion, their principles or justice, but.... not with violence or by killing people. Violence does breed violence. It creates resentment, revenge, loss of dignity and can even cause a non violent person to kill as in self defence.
I personally believe that nothing can justify the killing of people, including evil men such as Stalin, the unborn baby, "opponents" as in war, the person who has enraged you, etc.
As mentioned above "killing" for the sake of peace has been going on for a very, very long time and still, there is no real peace. When will the world learn, that killing people is not the solution. This ongoing circle of violence, revenge and disrespect for the life of a human being must be stopped..but how???
Perhaps the only way for this to happen would be if everyone in the world obeyed the commandment ...."Thou shall not kill"
