28.07.2010 - Holy Great Prince Volodymyr, equal to the Apostles, baptize Ukraine

St. Volodymyr was born in 954 in Kyiv. He was grandson of St. Olha who was a Christian and had great influence in him. Prince Volodymyr himself not only converted from paganism to Christianity, but also contributed to the entire Ukrainian people to adopt the Christian faith. There are many versions on the time and place of baptism of Prince. The most plausible is Byzantine. After his baptism in Kiev Vladimir ordered the destruction of pagan idols, but did so moderately. When most people were familiar with the basic truths of the Christian faith, he ordered to all his people of Kyiv in year 988 to gather on the banks of the Dnipro river to be baptised. By order of the prince there was built many churches, including Church of the "Tithes" in Kyiv. Prince Volodymyr died in 1015. Our church calls him equal to the Apostle, Baptist of Ukraine.
