Reflection of the Week

By: Very Rev Olexander Kenez  on: Thu 22 of July, 2010 12:45 EST  (126 Reads)
For Sunday 1.8.10
Here we find another miracle story of Jesus. This story has an interesting addition. There was a boy who needed healing. The apostles could not heal him, only Jesus could. The apostles asked Jesus, why was this so. Jesus answered them truthfully. They did not have enough faith. We do not need to be very clever to understand that exactly the same applies to us. We can talk about hurts, insults and persecution directed against us. However the reality is that perfect happiness comes from having perfect faith. Our unhappiness is something we create ourselves. Let us give this some consideration. Let go of our fears and have faith in God. Right Rev. Olexander Kenez

Rooted in him and built upon him and established in the faith

These words from the letter of St. Paul to the Colossians (2, 7) is a call of the Apostle to the establishment of a lasting union with Christ. Also calls for a strong root in Christ through a deeper relationship with the Church. Pope Benedict XVI addressed these words to madrid’s youth who came to Rome for the Cross World Youth Days:
"My dear young friends, this time preparing for the Days in Madrid is an excellent opportunity to experience the grace of belonging to the Church, the Body of Christ. WYD represent the dynamism of the Church and its eternal youth.

Each day of the year, through out the course of their lives, a practicing Catholic and Orthodox will draw on their person the Sign of the Cross - many times a day. So often do we do this, that it can become over time, more and more a mere force of habit, rather than something which we are conscious of doing. Within a classroom, or within the Church, we may simply Sign the Cross as a form of mimetic experience.....
